The non-native slipper limpet Crepidula fornicata (Linnaeus, 1758) has proliferated in the Bay of Brest during the 90s. This suspension-feeding gastropod has become a dominant species both in terms of density (> 2000 ind.m-2) and biomass (127 000 t fresh weight in 2000). C. fornicata is also an ecosystem engineer that modifies its habitat by the presence of its own shell (autogenic engineering) and by biodeposition of faeces and pseudo-faeces (allogenic engineering).
